INDICATIONS about the reciprocal mini chin cup appliance of the LANGLADE type..

  • retrusive mandibular arch advancement of the class II dental cases.
  • missing lower incisors (31-41,32-42).
  • microdontics (to close spaces - to move forward the teeth).
  • loss of molar anchorage (35 and 45 missing teeth or 35 and 45 extractions).

The clinical breakthrough of the class II mihi chin cup appliance was rewarded buy theA.A.O. 1996

For several years, Doctor LANGLADE has used a treatment auxiliary called "reciprocal mini chin cup appliance", a device capable of maintaining or pushing back the upper molars and bringing forward all the mandibular teeth. Some class II misocclusions must be treated with a maximum maxillary anchorage a loss of mandibular anchorage, which represents numerous biomechanical difficulties. The reciprocal mini chin cup appliance with its double support offers an original, interesting therapeutical solution.

This device comprises two distinct, complementary elements:

An interior .045"round arch (1)of an extraoral force fitted with two lateral .045" welded tubes inteded to receive the upper support of the mini chin cup appliance.

A mini chin cup appliance (2) with an upper anterior support which fits into the lateral tubes of the internal arch. The mini chin cup appliance consists of a resin support and anterior clasps at lip commissures level in order to fasten posterior elastics from each mandibular molar. The presented chin cup appliance model is associated to the adjustement system patented by ORTHO-LAB' LEGALLOIS and thus allows to avoid taking the chin and the internal arch impression.
This device makes it possible to double the class II elastics.

As a result of this double maxillary mandibular support, the mini chin cup appliance is capable of:

  • Jamming or pushing back the upper molar while avoiding any parasitical vertical movement.
  • Controlling the palatal plane positioning.
  • Bringing forward the mandibular arch by making an alveolar and vestibular horizontal translation tipping of the lower incisor.
  • Bringing forward the mandibular teeth in order to close the anterior spaces withoot contracting the arch.

This mini chin cup appliance is usually worn fragmentarily:

  • The interior .045" round arch is worn round the clock with class II elastics weighing 150 grams. (=9,72 grains)
  • The mini chin cup appliance is worn at home during 12 or 14 hours with posterior anterior elastics weighing 200 grams (=12,96 grains) at the most (at night). The practitioner will have to adjust the mini chin cup appliance on the patient by making possible corrections and will have to supervise the vestibular tipping of the lower incisors in order to obtain the ideal positioning.

The mini chin cup appliance is a useful, invaluable auxiliary for some class II malocclusions combined with a normal sagittal skeletal pattern. Some surgical borderline cases can be treated with the reciprocal mini chin cup appliance.
Its low crowding leads to a very good tolerance from patients whether children, or adults. As for the obtained results, they can be very rapid. (2 or 3 months).
